Jeremiah 10:1-11:23
a. vss 10:19-21
Woe to me because of my injury!
My wound is incurable!
Yet I said to myself,
"This is my sickness, and I must endure it."

20 My tent is destroyed;
all its ropes are snapped.
My sons are gone from me and are no more;
no one is left now to pitch my tent
or to set up my shelter.

21 The shepherds are senseless
and do not inquire of the LORD;
so they do not prosper
and all their flock is scattered.
b. The jealous God: idolatry is adultery - In this set of verses God pronounces his anger at Israel's idolatry:
10 They have returned to the sins of their forefathers, who refused to listen to my words. They have followed other gods to serve them. Both the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken the covenant I made with their forefathers. 11 Therefore this is what the LORD says: 'I will bring on them a disaster they cannot escape. Although they cry out to me, I will not listen to them. 12 The towns of Judah and the people of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to whom they burn incense, but they will not help them at all when disaster strikes. 13 You have as many gods as you have towns, O Judah; and the altars you have set up to burn incense to that shameful god Baal are as many as the streets of Jerusalem.'
I'm now more sensitive or aware of the comparisons of idolatry with adultery; of how God views His people as His spouse:
What is my beloved doing in my temple
as she works out her evil schemes with many?
Can consecrated meat avert your punishment ?
When you engage in your wickedness,
then you rejoice. [b] "

16 The LORD called you a thriving olive tree
with fruit beautiful in form.
But with the roar of a mighty storm
he will set it on fire,
and its branches will be broken.
Colossians 3:18-4:18 Just when you're reading & thinking about spouses...
18Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.

19Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

20Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.

21Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
Psalm 78:56-72. A jealous God: idolatry is adultery-
58 They angered him with their high places;
they aroused his jealousy with their idols.
Proverbs 24:28-29
